James Anderson Joins AMR Industry Alliance as Board Chair
Anderson follows Thomas B. Cueni, Director General of IFPMA, as head of AMR Industry Alliance
Geneva — November 17, 2022 – The AMR Industry Alliance today announced that James Anderson, Executive Director of Global Health with IFPMA, has joined the Alliance as its newest Board Chair effective immediately. Anderson follows Thomas B. Cueni’s leadership as Board Chair since the Alliance’s inception in 2017. Anderson was approved by the Alliance Board and formally took the helm at the Alliance’s Board meeting in Geneva this week.
“I am honoured to earn the trust and support of the AMR Industry Alliance’s Board as its newest Chair,” said Anderson. “From the Alliance’s work in sustainable manufacturing, to its support of antibiotic stewardship in low-to-moderate-income countries, and so much more, it is clear that industry, driven by the AMR Alliance, has made a major impact in the global fight against AMR. I look forward to continuing this great work.”
As Executive Director of Global Health, Anderson is responsible for leading IFPMA’s work on priorities in global health. This includes industry’s policy and advocacy on pandemic preparedness, antimicrobial resistance and global access to medicines and vaccines. In his previous role as Head of Corporate Government Affairs at GSK, he led GSK’s strategic engagement with the UK Government and was a member of the Life Science Strategy Board and Vice-Chair of Business at OECD’s Healthcare Committee. He led GSK’s work on AMR and advised on AMR policy development at the WHO, UN, EU Commission and national governments. He was also on the Founding team of the AMR Action Fund and led the development of the Davos Declaration and UNGA Industry AMR Roadmap.
The AMR Industry Alliance is a coalition of over 100 biotechnology, diagnostic, generics and research-based biopharmaceutical companies and trade associations that was formed to drive and measure industry progress to curb antimicrobial resistance. As the largest life-sciences coalition of its kind, the Alliance aims to provide sustainable solutions in the fight against AMR through broad industry momentum, public-private collaboration and multi-sectoral action.
